our efforts

The Gillette Pepsi-Cola Companies are committed to reducing our carbon footprint while maintaining our day to day business.

• Remanufactured toner cartridges are being utilized at all of our locations. This has kept 3,389 pounds of solid waste out of our local landfills and cut consumption of 3,012 quarts of oil used in the manufacturing process.

• Reduced fleet mileage by 137,000 miles in one year (2008-2009), reducing the amount of green house gasses we are emitting into the atmosphere.

• Reduced fuel usage by 38,000 gallons (2008-2009).

• Converted our sales team to smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles.

• All Gillette Pepsi-Cola Companies locations are participating in recycling and waste management programs. Our garbage pickup frequency has been cut in half since implementing the recycling program in 2008. Each location recycles office paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum.

• All divisions are utilizing a handheld computer system reducing our paper usage for invoicing by 400,000 two-ply sheets and by 350,000 two-ply sheets in our warehouse.

For more than 100 years, Pepsi has been finding new ways to refresh thirsty consumers. Now, they are applying that same innovative spirit to refreshing the environment - finding new ways to conserve natural resources, eliminate waste and emissions and protect our planet.

Sustainable Packaging

• All of Pepsi’s packages are 100% recyclable

• Through an ongoing committment to “lightweighting”, Pepsi has reduced the amount of material used in bottles, cans, labels, caps and wraps - eliminating 396 million pounds of plastic, aluminum and cardboard packaging since 2002.

• Pepsi uses a higher percentage of recycled material in our packages than any other national brand - 40-50% recycled aluminum in our cans and 10% recycled plastic in our bottles.

Energy Conservation and Climate Change

• Through a series of design changes and refinements, today’s vending machines use 51% less energy than 2003 models and today’s coolers use 44% less energy than 2004 models. Worldwide, these improvements have reduced energy consumption by about 400 million kilowatt hours per year and save our customers about $40 million in annual energy bills.

• Pepsi led the industry in mandating removal of greenhouse gas (GHG) producing insulating foams from our refrigerated equipment and introduced the first climate-friendly vendors in the U.S. By improving the energy efficiency of our vendors and coolers, we’ve reduced GHG emissions by 282,000 metric tons per year. And, by using less plastic in our Aquafina water bottles, we’re cutting GHG emissions by another 104,000 metric tons per year. These two changes alone are equivalent to taking 71,000 cars off the road for a year.
